A love letter to the land
I'm a ceramic artist based in the Cairngorms National Park in the Scottish Highlands, specialising in handmade, functional pottery. My work is a celebration of Scotland's landscapes and the feelings they evoke. Each piece is wheel-thrown in my studio and made in small batches, with a focus on scale, form, composition, and texture, designed to bring character to your home and become part of your daily routine.
Having recently moved back to this landscape, I've been struck by how grounded I feel here, and that sense of place has become central to my work. It's not just the hills and glens themselves that inspire me, but what they stir up: a feeling of identity, of belonging, of home. Often it's tangled up with memory too, the places and moments that have shaped me. My pottery is my way of holding onto that feeling and passing a little of it on.
Drawing on the textures and tones and shifting colours of Scotland's land and coastline, each piece is thoughtfully designed to carry something of that spirit into your space, and hopefully something of that grounded feeling too.
My palette stays close to the land itself: black, white, and the muted greens of moss and seagrass. I'm drawn to texture over decoration; carved lines, matte and gloss finishes, surfaces that ask to be touched as much as looked at.
Function is important to me too. Whether it's a perfectly balanced mug, a statement vase or a set of tableware, I want to make pieces that earn their place in everyday life. There's something quietly soothing in reaching for the same mug every morning, the familiarity of it becoming part of who you are.
